My experience in gardening started when I was a child following my grandparents around in the same garden that I grow my vegetables in now. Like many Hawaii families that come from the plantation era, we grew a lot of our own food and vegetables and traded with our friends and neighbors for things that we didn't grow ourselves. My grandfather also sold our extra fruits and produce that he grew to local grocery stores and I guess was a 'market gardener' before it was even a thing.
